code of consumer banking practice

The Code of Consumer Banking Practice is a culmination of the efforts by the banks in Singapore to crystallize the minimum standards of service and conduct that the consumer can expect when dealing with their bank.

Based on the four principles of fairness, transparency, accountability and reliability, the Code aims to establish the foundation for building a trusting and open relationship between the consumer and the bank.

All member banks of The Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS) are committed to comply fully with the Code effective 2 January 2003.

A copy of this code is also available at the various branches of the major retail banks in Singapore.

To guide the Code Subscribers in understanding and implementing the broad principles spelt out in the Code, the Guidance for Code Subscribers, a supplementary document to the Code was introduced effective 1 September 2004.
